. What is Reiki?Reiki is a very simple laying-on of hands healing technique that dates back thousands of years. This life-changing experience is not a "miracle cure," nor will it prevent you from having challenges in your life. What it will do for you, at the very least, is help you to deal with those challenges more effectively. This ancient healing art uses the life force energy to heal, harmonize and balance the physical, mental/emotional and spiritual levels of the body. Reiki is not a religion, but it is very spiritual in nature. The energy used in Reiki is far older in concept than any religious philosophy. There is no dogma, nothing you must believe in order to use this particular healing technique, and it doesn't take years of training to master this art! The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words - Rei and Ki. While the Japanese kanji character for Rei has several levels of meaning, the most widely accepted interpretation is "universal," meaning that it is present everywhere. The more esoteric meaning given to the word, as used in Reiki, is "spiritual knowledge." This wisdom/knowledge comes from the All Knowing Source. This source can be described in any way you choose to name it; God, Goddess, the Higher Self, the Universal Source, God-Consciousness, or whatever can be termed as the creator of life. This All Knowing Source knows the cause of all problems and knows what to do to heal them. What is the life force energy? As you already know, all living things radiate a warmth and energy. This energy, or "vital life force," is known by many names in the various cultures. In Sanskrit, it's known as Prana. The Polynesian Hunas call this healing energy Mana, and in Hebrew, it's known as Ruach. It is known as Ch'i in China, and Ki in Japan. The Chinese place a great deal of significance of the life force and have studied it for thousands of years. Chi'i or Ki is the life force that affects all living things, including the planets and stars. When this energy departs, life itself departs. Reiki can therefore best be defined as "Spiritually guided life force energy." Upon receiving the first "attunement," the Reiki practitioner becomes a channel for this healing energy. It is not the practitioner who guides the life force energy (Ki), or does the healing. Remember, the practitioner acts as the channel for the healing energy. Reiki has a knowledge/wisdom (Rei) of its own and will go where it's most needed. Intent is what guides the system, the attunements are just one means of connecting to the source. Anyone who practices some form of "spiritual healing" will use this life force energy (Ki), but not all healers will use Reiki. What sets Reiki apart from other forms of laying-on of hands, or Touch Healing, is the process of initiation and attunements. These attunements create the healer, and are passed directly from a Reiki Master to the student. While the attunements are a very spiritual experience, they will not give the practitioner anything they didn't already have. What to expect at your Reiki session. Reiki is performed while you are fully clothed, usually in a lying down position, first on your back, then on your front. The Reiki practitioner will then simply use a touch (hands-on) therapy from head to foot on each side to allow Reiki to travel from the universe to you. All you need to do is simply relax, breathe and enjoy the healing. The Ethical Principles of Reiki:Just for today do not worry. Just for today do not anger. Honor your parents, teachers and elders. Earn your living honestly. Show gratitude |
